In the beginning....

Obviously this is new for me, and no I am not getting married, or pregnant, or anything else that most people make blogs for. I am just living my life as a single girl in the great state of Utah going to cosmetology school. That's blog worthy, right? :)

Here's a little story about how I got here. After high school, I decided to try the college life. I went to BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. And that's about the only thing thats there. It's a super small town that, unless you are Mormon, you probably haven't heard of it. Strike one. The school itself was awesome. I loved the atmosphere, my classes, the friends I had made, just about everything. Oh, did I mention its like the arctic tundra in the winter? Strike two. -25 plus windchill is not my idea of fun. I was just taking general classes, which majority of the time i enjoyed. After four months of being home in the winter and working at the Point Defiance Zoo, as well as my dad's office, I went back to school for the Spring semester. A little ways in, I had a feeling to go home. Granted, I had been home twice in the whole month and a half I was there. I'm sure that didn't help. But I told my parents and they originally were shocked, and weren't too fond of the idea. I knew I wanted to go to cosmetology school instead of wasting my time at normal school with boring homework and crazy rules. Strike three and four. They told me that if I was into it 100%, then they would support me in my decision. A week after first telling them that, I was on my way home. Awesome! I survived through the summer working a ton, but had so much fun doing it. The people I worked with became my family. In October, my mom and I made a trip down to Utah to check out some schools. Paul Mitchell and Aveda were almost immediately out of the picture right when we toured them. There were just weird feelings that came with each one. After we toured Renaissance, we knew it was where I should go, and where I would be the most happy. So, I applied that next week and started January 10, 2011. It has been amazing. I have already learned so much and it's only been 6 weeks!

I just finished my tests today to get out of our orientation class. Next week i'll be on the floor helping students that are a little further along in school. So you're probably thinking, you're in hair school, so you must do lots of weird things to your hair. Well, so far, i've had hot pink extensions, and today I just dyed my hair dark brown with two red chunks. And I'm sure this list is only going to get longer! But I am so looking forward to that!

I have enjoyed Provo quite a bit. Luckily it hasn't been snowing TOO much. and when it does, it melts the next day. I love being close to BYU and getting to enjoy the college life that way. Since being here I've been to my first college sports games. So far its been basketball, men's volleyball, and hockey. And my friends and I, along with hundreds of other crazy people camped outside of the Marriott Center for the BYU vs. University of Utah Basketball game. The good seats were worth spending the night in 20 degree weather. :)

All in all, I love my life right now and where I'm at. And I am so excited to see where I will be going in the future!
